Looking to fit a new system at home

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am looking for some advise really. Recently I woke up to find someone has keyed the sides of my car whilst parked outside my house, on my road. I've not done anything wrong to anyone so you can imagine how annoyed I was at this!

So, I am going to install a new CCTV system at home. I have experience with fitting analogue systems and HD-SDI however after searching on the internet it seems that IP would be the way to go when fitting a system from scratch.

I am looking at spending around £500 on the hardware it's self including NVR (4 channel), Cameras, POE switch and cabling. The NVR I was looking at is Samsung WiseNet Lite SRN-473S 4ch NVR with 3 of these cameras: Samsung Wisenet Lite SNV-L6083R.

The cameras are 2MP in 1080p with 20m IR. My main question is will there be any lag with the camera's? Or should the video be smooth in operation?

Also am I better off going with IP over HD-SDI / anagloue? When trying to fit within budget it seems IP is the way to go with regards to quality of the surveillance but I don't want there to be any lag. If my car gets vandalised again I want the best possible chance of catching who is doing it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

definitely go IP. If there is any lag, its only a few seconds at most. Also, you cant watch 24/7, that's why you record the cameras.

Even if you see someone doing it, how are you going to "catch" them? I'm assuming they will just run away when you walk outside.

I have a retail store, and even when we see someone shop lifting, they typically just walk out and don't acknowledge us. Unless you're willing to get physical, it comes down to letting the police search for them.
