aprilfuse 0 Posted February 23, 2016 I'm new to the forum, go easy. I'm installing a standalone system for a friend who will be opening a Subway franchise. This is my first and was defaulted as "the video guy," otherwise installations are foreign to me. I don't see the need for anything over 8 cameras, and I'm definitely going with 1080p. It's 2016, I don't understand why people install anything less. Costco sells Lorex, Swann and Q-See. I understand you guys hate these brands as they're considered the budget line? This presumption comes from posts I've read dating back to 2012, but I'm guessing this was comparing SD cameras/systems. Does this still hold true with their HD technology? Dahua and Hikvision seem to have the prestigious title here, but this also puts him in a totally different price bracket. For his purposes at a small franchise, what would you install? In addition, HD-SDI or IP? HD-SDI sounds much easier with my limited networking knowledge, and I heard IP suffers from delay/lag/dropped frames if bandwidth is too high. Any advantages besides the networking benefit?
mattaggie 0 Posted February 28, 2016 like you said, its 2016. Build an IP system. As far as bandwidth issues go, you put camera system on its own network and you will have no troubles.
