my choice is DVMRe Triplex for a 10 camera install. I believe it is 30fps. do you think this fps is reasonable as fas as the recording is concerned? i.e 3 fps per camera.

thanks

Hi, The DVMRe is 60fps. Its fine if you use motion recording, and still useful even if not. If you want real time speeds then you really need a PC system. Otherwise these are solid plug and play machines. Only issue i have with them is upgrading the HDDs. You would need to do factory training at GE to get their Power Supply upgrade Kits in order to upgrade the HDDs. Optionally you can use a Firewire Device for archiving though (only on the DVMRe's)

Ge Doesn't have a very user friendly GIU. 20 people can view live images at one time, but only one user at a time can view achives.

What is you application, meaning building, for yourself, for a client?

Will you need a hybrid system analog and IP both? Or just analog?

The reason I ask is because Video insight is a relitivly low cost computer based dvr (probably a little less than the 2 in your post), and is easy to install and use. It's a flexible system.

Tom care to chime in?

That is a draw back too, though at least it has full remote admin which even alot of pc dvrs dont have. Also the multi site works good, 64 way from 16 DVRs. The HDD upgrade is my only issue with them. There are other small things I wish they would upgrade too .. either way its still a solid RTOS DVR.

there was recently a court case in ft. lauderdale that ruled that 3fps per second was not admissable in court.

If you are using motion detection recording, you can get real time on cameras while others are not picking up motion. It uses Smart Motion Recording which means it spreads the total pps among all the connected cameras.

Eg. If camera 1 is picking up motion but all other cameras are not, that camera will record in the total pps, if cameras 1 and 2 are picking up motion, then they will devide the total pps / 2, and once camera 2 stops motion, camera 1 goes back to the total pps.

Many DVRs work like this, generally called Smart Motion Recording.

From using multiplexers and single channel DVRs I experienced that even less than 1pps (5pps divided by 8 for example) was fine for evidence. Obviously depends on the application. Ive only ever upgraded GE DVRs when i needed faster recording speeds, such as the GeoVision 1480 for Real Time display and Recording in 640x480.

to be honest imho, 3fps is just shocking. would never install a system that could only handle this!
