painty 0 Posted February 25, 2016 Hi I am looking to purchase a couple of the new Hikvision exir turrets (DS-2CD2342WD-I). Because of the way my porch is i have no option but to mount these low down and within arms reach. This means the wall mount that is sold for this camera (ds-1273zj-130-trl) is not an option because the head of it can be unscrewed by hand very easily so one snip of the cat5 cable and they'd be off with my camera. This means i have to mount the cameras directly to the wall but one chap at a cctv store i spoke to said you shouldn't do this because the base is not water proof and you could get rain water inside the base. Has anyone wall mounted their cams or had any issue with rain water inside the base? Thanks
mattaggie 0 Posted February 28, 2016 Never used this camera but I don't see why you have to use the wall mount arm. This camera by itself is rated as "IP66 weather-proof protection." I use geovision dome cameras and have never used an additional mount arm. Also be aware that I don't think using wall mount or not makes any difference on thief's ability to steal camera. I doubt the camera can simply be unscrewed off. It attaches in a more complicated/secure way. But with the right tools, the camera can be stolen with or without wall mount. painty 0 Posted February 28, 2016 Thanks for the replies. Did you store the pig tail within the base or did you feed the rj45 connector through the wall? One other question i had was around cctv in general. There are no other houses on my street with cctv (some dont even have alarms). Would getting cctv that is clearly visible (i cannot conceal it at all) draw attention to my house and make it more appealing to a would be burglar as they may think i have more to protect or have the opposite effect? mattaggie 0 Posted February 29, 2016 I've always been of the opinion that I want my cameras to be seen. I think its a deterrent. Personally Ive never equated cameras with nice stuff inside. Im sure plenty of crappy houses have cameras (probably because the area is bad).
painty 0 Posted February 29, 2016 Thanks. The area i live in is pretty quiet and one of the reasons id like some cameras is because i love my gadgets, not because i think the area warrants it but didnt want to get them installed if it drew attention in a street that doesnt have them.
