platestealer 0 Posted March 15, 2016 I am putting access control in a elevator that is 3 stories total. There are extra wires in the hoistway already, but they aren't shielded, can I use these anyways? Will it work?
ssmith10pn 0 Posted March 16, 2016 It doesn't hurt to try. I have ran readers on cat5 before with no issue.
platestealer 0 Posted March 23, 2016 I believe there is only 120v going to the cab, (maybe 208). I don't believe there could be too much interference, but then again, I don't know.
fast380 0 Posted May 5, 2017 This is an old subject, so by now you have probably already tried it. I would say it will work, but you may get missed reads. I have had to rewire entire buildings because the reader wire wasn't shielded. If there is any noise near the wires it will cause miss reads. Fluorescent lights are notorious for this!! In ProWatch you will get "Invalid Forward Card Read" events. If it is only in the travel cable, you may be ok, but you better be prepared to add another cable.
