NAN 0 Posted March 21, 2016 Hi, what the differences between the NVR and other storage as SAN.. if the camera stream recorded and stored in NVR why to use an another storage as SAN in some projects ? If the NVR can store the camera videos for a long time where this depends on the NVR specifications, is it mandatory to have SAN storage in the network ? and can we use SAN instead of NVR.. like recording the stream directly to the SAN. thewireguys 3 Posted March 21, 2016 Great questions! A SAN (Storage area network) is normally used to expand storage for cameras in large IP/CCTV systems. The NVR/Server will handle the recording and use a SAN to store the video. Most SANs consists of iSCSI and Fiber Channel Storage. iSCSI is a IP based storage networking standard which allows you to use IP networks for a transport. It is like a NAS but provides block level access. FCP (Fiber Channel Storage) allows you to connect your NVRS/Servers to SAN units via fiber. Having deployed both iSCSI and FCP for large projects I would recommend FCP as is faster and more reliable. Daryl733 0 Posted March 23, 2016 It depends on the DVR. Some can use the local HDD as a buffer just in case your network is down and they can't record to the SAN. Some design it to record sequentially. e.g. 1 storage full move on to the next in the list. So in this case, you'll not want to put in a HDD in your DVR. Consult the DVR manual/vendor.
