Your opinion on PTZ choice.

Hi all. Im looking at a hikvision ptz but have two choices.

I don't know if I should get the higher megapixle without the zoom or the lower megapixle with the zoom.

These are the basic specs.

Ptz 4mp 6-8mm zoom

Ptz 2mp 4-12 4xzoom

I need to capture about 15 meters from camera which my current 4mm 3mp hikvision cameras don't do a good job of reading a number plate.

the 12 mm will give you a smaller field of view which may be able to focus on the plate you won't see much difference in the 6 mm and the 4mm that you currently have

Yeh i thought 4mm vs 6mm was not much difference.

I actually doubt any specs you are posting are correct.

 

6-8mm zoom? That Wouldn't even be a 2x zoom.

4-12mm? That would be a 3x zoom, not a 4x.

 

It doesn't make any sense.

 

What Hikvision models are you looking at?

That model does have 4x zoom (3-12mm lens), but it is an indoor camera. I do not know where you are trying to capture license plates, but I do not see that one as a good option.

 

If you do already have a 3Mp camera with 4mm lens, you will probably be better with the same camera, but using the correct lens (8mm, 12mm, or whatever you need) than with a PTZ.

Wonder how long it will last outside lol
