cwyatt89 0 Posted May 29, 2016 Hey Guys, My father loves nature. I installed for him recently a deer feeding camera in our backyard. I used a simple bullet style camera, a low end $20.00 camera, about 15 ft from where we dump corn and salt/mineral blocks at. Over 10-15 deer come each day to graze and hang out, and my father loves it. He is retired, and it is one of the only gifts he uses everyday. The feeding site is about 100ft from the back of my house, so i trenched siamese bnc cable back the 100ft, and then made a run of about 70 ft from the basement window to his T.V. All he has to do is turn on his t.v., and turn to the correct video source channel, and he is inside, comfortably watching the deer play and hang out. After the winter, the bnc cable became compromised somehow. I checked the camera, and it appears to still be good. However, i do not want to run another length of cable inside conduit piping because of the hassle. Here is what i would like to install: PTZ camera with 20-27x zoom BNC to HDMI adapter controller joystick for next to his recliner. Is this possible to do? I see everyone looks like they are using a dvr....my old man doesn't even know how to switch channels sometimes to turn on his dvd player, so I need simple. I need a reccomended high quality outdoor dome PTZ camera that is under 200.00 with a decent enough zoom to get to the 70ft away feeding area, a simple, no frills controller for the camera, and bypassing a dvr setup. Does anyone have any advice or other options? I really appreciate any help with this seemingly custom setup. Thanks, Cwyatt89
tomcctv 190 Posted May 30, 2016 Hi. With a low budget you are looking at no name brand. But I would say with your budget buy from your country don't buy from China direct.. ( it will cost you a fortune to send back ) if any problems. But here is a quick look on eBay which is in your budget ..... You will also need to see if they have a controller as well. I would connect to a AV port on your tv http://www.ebay.com/itm/1200TVL-HD-SONY-CMOS-30x-Zoom-PTZ-IR-Dome-Home-CCTV-Security-Camera-Video-IR-Cut-/351595056572?hash=item51dcb2cdbc:g:PrAAAOSwo6lWLZMJ
cwyatt89 0 Posted May 31, 2016 Thank you for the quick reply. I have been looking at that particular seller for the past two weeks. Their stuff is made in china, but that is fine enough for me, considering the price and the light use it will see. I wonder if i can bypass a dvr though? I imagine i could, so long as i had a controller connected to the two wires coming from the PTZ, going into the controller itself. Have you had any luck with hdmi converters? is there anything to gain from using one? I was hoping it might clean up the signal a bit, should there be any granuals or fuzz coming across. I tend to follow the rule with cables that the fewer connections along the way, the cleaner the signal. Does this hold true? Thanks Again!
zr1 0 Posted May 31, 2016 Something has to control the PTZ and that means either a DVR or a PTZ controller (joystick, etc.) And that's how we used to do it (still do on some applications or retrofits). But at this year's Vegas show, there was a whole bunch of "mini IP PTZ domes" out and for a whole lot less than PTZ cameras used to be (Dahua had quite a layout, but also a bunch of lesser-known brands too). Even on Amazon, there's a bunch of them in the $200-300 range. Quite a few of them are doing 4x-10x optical. But there's also some 20x optical cams. Then with the higher resolution, many cams allow for digital zooming. Lay your Cat5/6, plug it into the router...everything else is simply controlled from the computer or smartphone/tablet. Even power it from a POE switch (or single POE injector). None of that 24 volt stuff, no separate RS485 wire. If it needs to be on the big screen TV, if the TV has USB input to handle something like Amazon Fire TV, then one of the Android-based USB dongles can typically get the right app and it can be controlled from the TV and a remote control. Still a bit of research to match it all up, but it's some good times we're living in!

But the one listed is a US seller so returns are cheaper for you ...... Not many people get there money back from China. There is no point going HDMI with a analog PTZ is just expense you don't need. AV 3 on your tv will be enough. But yes you need a controller .... The same seller has them for $60 If you do want HDMI then your best option is a cheap dvr with HDMI out .... The benifit with this is you don't need a controller as the PTZ will then be controlled by a mouse. And it might not be a benifit to you but with a dvr it is recording at the same time ........just in case your farther catches somerhing exciting
cwyatt89 0 Posted June 1, 2016 Well thans for the input. The DVR i fear would be cumbersome for someone who considers their flip phone space age technology. I do not live with him, and as a stubborn old dutch man, he refuses to learn new things. Trust me, its the epidomy of frustrating. I will purchase the necessary bits, and I will report back with an answer for us all. "It is only through doing that we learn best." -Cwyatt89
