What's the word to date on ultra-low light/lux camera components?

 

CCD? CMOS?

1/3"? 2/3"? 1"?

Chipset?

Lenses?

Brand(Sony, etc.)?

 

I like to get the raw components (ex: board-cams, lenses, DVR PCBs, LEDs) and experiment myself with placement, etc.. Particularly covert, very low-light, low-noise, etc..

 

Problem when it comes to finding good CCTV cameras is that the given specs and prices are often all over the board. Best way I can think of judging a camera prior to working with it hands on is to look online for reviews and forum postings of picture comparisons. Wasn't there a Thread here dedicated to that once?
