DVR Record images to a webserver for review

Recommended Posts

I have installed a DVR with 3 cameras, all working fine and the customer can access the cameras online from his home. I networked the DVR using DynDns as his ISP do not offer fixed IP addresses.

Well being extra paranoid he is worried if someone breaks in they will take the DVR or smash it leaving the evidence unrecoverable. He wants to know if their is a way of setting it up to record the images to a web server remotly.

Is such a service widley available ? Do you need a compatable DVR or just a networked DVR?

Many thank in advance for you advice, really useful forum.

why not hide the DVR and place an old VHS recorder on the shelf with 4 wires coming into it? Make it look good enough to take...................

what kind of DVR is it? yes FTP can be used in some cases, as with software recording solutions, IP type.

Depends on the DVR he use. Some dvr support remote uploading of images to email/ftp upon alarm/trigger.

Alternatively, construct a strongbox and put it in.

OR, construct a fireproof strongbox and put it in.

No point being that paraniod, nothing's foolproof. It's just how much effort is needed.

You can use remote sending of images, but what if he cut the power ?

So u'll need UPS.

So wat if he cut phoneline (assuming u using dsl), so u'll need alternative internet connection on maybe cable ?

So what if he cut cable ? Use GPRS/3G/WIFI/WIMAX ?

He use jammer ?

Most simply, he can just put on a mask/disguise, and you won't be able to make out who the person is.

There's always ways to get ard. How easy/how hard, depends on what's your budget.

Some DVR can send image-email alerts on motion detection, but that's pretty limited anyhow. If he can connect & view live from home, he could record that stream at home... could leave a cheap pc connected to the DVR via internet, and capture the packet-stream with free software like ethereal, or video-out from the pc to another DVR or vcr...
