Speco Cams & DVR

We are in the process of installing some new Speco cameras and a DVR. The cameras are a model HT5940T and offer two BNC outputs. One labeled CVBS and the other TVI.

The DVR is a Speco model D8HS. The BNC inputs on the DVR say for 960H cameras. Does this mean I need to use the CVBS outputs from the cameras?

That is exactly correct .

I'm just not sure why you have a new hybrid 960h & ip dvr

And you have 1080p hd-tvi camera's ?

To use the hi-def capabilities of your new dvr up to 5mp ,

you need to get ip camera's. Hd-tvi camera's will not work

At all with your dvr unless they also have a 960h output as

The real issue is that you could have bought 960h camera's

With the same video quality as yours for less than 1/2 the price .

I would suggest either returning the dvr for an hd-tvi Hybrid .

Or returning the tvi camera's for either megapixel ip cams or

960h cams .

In the long run ,hd-tvi will give you clear hi-def video and be

Much less expensive .Hd-tvi camera's are generally not much

more expensive than 960h cams if at all .

Lucky for me, I didn't spec the DVR or the cameras. I'm just tasked with installing them

Are you familiar with these cameras? Do you know the highest resolution I can get from the CVBS output?

I'm wondering if we should take the hit on the DVR (its been in service for a month or so, so we can't return it) and get a DVR that's TVI capable.

We could return the cameras for 960H units, but I'm wondering how much resolution would be lost over TVI?

960h is the highest resolution .

If you want to see the difference between 960h and 1080p ,search youtube university .

Speco products are historically way overpriced .those cams are about $185 each .

That's more than double the price of most tvi cams .if you can't return the dvr then

I would return the cams and look around for 1080p ip cams .you should be

Able to find some cheaper than $185 .

If the equipment was purchased together at the same supply house ,

I would return everything and shop elsewhere .anybody that has been in this business

for 5 minutes knows that you don't sell hd-tvi cams with a 960h & ip dvr to use the

960h output of a hi-def camera .

If the supplier won't refund or at least exchange for the proper equipment ,

I would call the credit card co. and let them get the refund !!!

 

You could get a hikvision turbo hd-tvI dvr # ds-7308hqhi or a ds-7316hqhi cheaper than the speco dvr .

And hikvision motorized zoom varifocal camera's cheaper than the speco cams .

It wasn't the fault of the distributor, our people bought the DVR a month or so ago to be compatible with the existing analog cameras but the cameras have been failing so they decided to upgrade them all. We made the camera selection, but no one ever checked to see if the DVR would be compatible.

I've decided to use the composite video hook up for now and then I will work on them to upgrade the DVR to TVI, at that point it will just be a matter of changing the BNC connection to the TVI output at the cameras.
