Hotel CCTV IP System Design Question(s)

Recommended Posts

Hi and thanks for all you contribute!

I am upgrading part of our hotel CCTV system from analogue to IP.

None of the system will be connected to the internet. It will be used as an intranet.

Im looking at IP PTZ and fixed domes, POE+/POE. Looking at TP-LINK 24-Port Gigabit Ethernet L2 Managed PoE+ Switch with 4 Combo SFP Slots (TL-SG3424P).

or

NETGEAR ProSAFE FS728TP 24-Port Fast Ethernet PoE Smart Managed Switch 192w (FS728TP-100NAS)

It comes with options such as "smart" or "managed". Prices is negligible, what is the recommendation? Only thing using these switches will be CCTV cameras.

please let me know if I require any other hardware in my design listed below:

CCTV - CAT6 to Network Switch with UPS in server rack. Multimode fiber from switch to NVR (SRN-4000 64 channel) with UPS. NVR connected to KVM switch to monitor(s).

Do I require any SFP modules?

CAT6 runs are all under 100m.

Fiber run will be up to 1,000 m.

I am in South Korea on a US Military base. Currently use Samsung as its easy to get locally and warranty issues are solved in a few hours.

any and all recommendations please!

Thank you,

Don

You said you run fiber from network switch to NVR.

You will need SFP module to connect fiber to the network switch. The TP-link switch mentioned in your post already has 4 combo SFP slots. so you should go for it.

One more point - I checked datasheet of SRN-4000. It has only ethernet connector available. so, how will you connect fiber to the NVR?, you will need a fiber to ethernet media converter at NVR end.

Managed switch will have more features, with capability to manage each port of the switch idividually. so, if not much price difference, go for managed switch. however, if it is a military area, you should make sure all ports are secured post-installation.
