CCTV Newbie looking for some advice

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

I have had a recent intruder so I am looking to install a CCTV system. I am quite a handy person but I don't know where to start so I will explain what I am looking for and what I am thinking of getting and wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts.

NVR: DS-7108N-SN/P

DVR that records motion

access live and recorded footage from the app from anywhere (I am told all DVR's don't do that).

keep 30 days of footage... (2 tb enough ?).

Thought POE is easier - just run cat6 cable and plug rj45 in to cam and straight in to the box (that's how it works right ?)

Looking at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hikvision-Multi-language-DS-7108N-SN-P-Plug-Play-8CH-PoE-NVR-for-HD-IP-Camera-/321954112187?hash=item4af5f5e2bb:g:G6kAAOSw9r1V~qFL

Camera Reqs.

need 3 cameras for the outside. Fro nt, back and side alley.

Later add 2 x internal camera for hallways

which camera ? BUllet cameras or dome cameras ? Any difference apart from someone can't tamper with Dome ?

The NVR is only upto 2mp. Is 2mp enough ? Should I be investing in 3mp tech ? That puts up the costs and I was hoping to avoid that

Looking for

verifocal lense 30m with night vision. Driveway length is 6m x 8m wide. I want to be able to read car registrations. I am not sure to have one in covering the front or two (one point one way and one pointing the other).

Camera make ? I really wanted hikvision or dahua but the IP cams are expensive. Thinking securicam as they are £50 per cam

Looking at these .. will they work on a 2mp box ?

http://www.cctvtek.co.uk/_shop/ip-bullet-cameras/securicam--24-megapixel-1080p-outdoor-varifocal-bullet-camera-with-60m-night-vision-/

I assume the hikvision is not verifocal. How important is that ?

Will securicam work with the hikvision box ?

Budget: around £250 total

Thank you in advance for any help. I appreciate any help I can get.

Hi. You have a budget of £250 you will loose that if you buy from the links posted.

Do not take any notice of eBay crap .co .uk ...... Just because it ends in .co.uk does not mean it's a uk seller.

The hikvision is a copy ..... And to prove that to you it says in the add DO NOT UPDATE. .... A TRUE HIK would not have that warning so you would be buying a unit that can't be updated..... And you will have no warranty or support.

The same with the camera listed it's from hong kong... It will display Chinese

We're are you based and I'll find hik or dahua closest to you

Thanks tomcctv. Feel like I dodged a bullet. I did wonder about that warning in red.

I am based in Essex in the UK. Thanks again for the help.

I have another look at this and I don't think I can achieve an 8 ch IP NVR and four IP cameras for £250.

I don't know whether to save money and order the

http://www.cctvtek.co.uk/_shop/4-camera-hd-kitd/4-x-hd-720p-varifocal-waterproof-grey-dome-camera--4-channel-hd-720p-hdmi-p2p-dvr-cctv-kit/

Or may be mix and match and get the 8ch non IP DVR from Hikvision and some other branded cameras. In terms of installation. Makes little difference. I have to run cat6 so I can easily run coax and the power cable.

Anyone offer some advice.

Hi there

I just wanted to find out what you went for in the end? I am in a similar boat and confused with the variety of stuff out there.

Thanks

Alan

I would recommend an 8 channel AHD 1080p DVR - 2TB hard drive with either fixed or varifocal dome cameras. You should get remote viewing on all machines. Most 1080p AHD cameras are 2.4Mp - and although you can get 8 Channel AHD DVR machines that support 3Mp the cameras will not be ready for a couple of months. 2.4Mp is awesome quality.

Unfortunately you will struggle to find the quality for £250.00.
