Techno14 0 Posted August 16, 2016 Hi All, I wonder if someone can advise on CAT6 Installation over 150 meters. We trying a new installation and the distance between the NVR and the IP cameras is well over 150 meters. And I am wondering if the camera quality will be good as I believe Ethernet cable signal cannot travel over 100 meters. Please how can I install the cameras over the 150 distance using NVR and IP camera. Any advise on this will be helpful. Kind regards,
almelst 1 Posted August 16, 2016 Putting a LAN switch somewhere in between should definitely do the job, and you could group some cameras and connect them to NVR with just one cable..
Techno14 0 Posted August 16, 2016 Hi, Please can you let me know how you will group the cameras together? Thanks,
jeromephone 6 Posted August 16, 2016 If you only have one camera that is out of limits you could try an POE extender but I have had better luck with an intmediate switch that with the passive POE extenders.
Techno14 0 Posted August 17, 2016 Hi, Thanks for the reply, I am installing about 20 IP cameras that is out of range i.e. more than 150 meters. Please are you saying I should put a SWITCH in between the CAT 6 CABLE? Initial thoughts 24 Port Channel NVR connect to a Linksys switch 15 IP Cameras connect to the NVR. Please advise if the above will suffice. Kind regards,
almelst 1 Posted August 23, 2016 My idea was to arrange the system (wiring, LAN switches, cameras) in a way that cable length between a camera and a corresponding switch is no more than 100 m. Maybe you should consider using more LAN switches. BTW, what do you mean by "24 port NVR" ? Is it 24 channel NVR ?
Techno14 0 Posted August 24, 2016 Thanks for the reply. What I meant was 24 Channel NVR. The last camera position is definitely longer than 100 meters from the NVR point. We plan to put a LAN Switch next to the NVR. So the installs is like this >- Switch==>NVR===========================Camera 1meter (NVR CAT6 Cable to camera over 150Meters) Please advise on the above installation module. Your advance co-operation is much appreciated. Kind regards

Standards for Cat5E and CAT6 IT networking cabling state that the fixed segment should be no more that 90m with 5m patch leads at each end. Extenders do work but as distance increases PoE can be an issue.
