Designing & building small residential system

Recommended Posts

Greetings from rainy England!

I'm embarking on a 3-4 IP cameras surveillance project, after much 'home study' of the subject. I will probably pay a technician by the hour to set up computer, data storage etc. Suppliers here generally won't sell us novices anything as they guess we'll burden them with too many questions etc. Thus, I'd be interested in any views.

I'm keen on various Axis cameras; seems their firmware provides superior images & video etc. which would be important in court. Or should I save a little & go with say Dahua? Any views on this, also other comparable brands?

Axis cameras are said to be able to 'record to the internet'. The detail of how this works/how I might set this up isn't clear & what hardware optios might there be here? For instance, I'm thinking not to bother with an NVR but perhaps store directly on the cloud, or, perhaps add a NAS into my network plus backup to cloud? Presumably I'd use my network PC running say Milestone, to manage all this? Or . . would axis Camera Companion suffice?

What would members suggest & can you clear some of the 'fog' concerning the best approach? Thanks
