xt600 0 Posted September 5, 2016 Hi all, I'm wanting to put up a camera to monitor my front entrance. I don't need to record anything so need a camera which can connect directly to a monitor without the need of a DVR. Can this be done and if so, which sort of camera do I need? Thanks

jeromephone 6 Posted September 7, 2016 you could get an analog camera and run coax back to a monitor or tv with a analog input. usually monitor or tv will have a yellow rca input or bnc.

Thanks for your reply. So will any analogue camera work directly into a monitor? I have some AHD cameras but they won't work straight to monitor, I have to run them through a DVR... rossko 0 Posted September 9, 2016 You need to find out what feeds your monitor can work with. Guessing the monitor you want to use has a standard composite 1v video input (yellow RCA plug)? AHD won't work properly into that, it is not the same signal. You can get converters for AHD to HDMI signal, allowing you to use a modern monitor http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/AHD-to-HDMI-video-converter-p/ahd-cv7.htm If you have an old monitor, it's probably more cost effective to buy an old-fashioned standard camera off eBay. I haven't chosen a monitor yet, but hope to use an old one I have which will have scart/RCA. I want to avoid the AHD to HDMI converters because of cost. Not sure what an 'old fashioned standard camera' is but assume something like this?: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CF615-1-3-CCD-1000TVL-24-LED-IR-Cut-Security-Indoor-Dome-CCTV-Camera-3-6mm-PAL-/331891581269?hash=item4d4647a155:g:ZYcAAOSwEjFXcquU
