jack111 0 Posted June 1, 2006 Got the webcam server runing fine on port 80 but when I set it to port 82 it no longer seems to work. thought setting it to port 82 would improve security.
Thomas 0 Posted June 1, 2006 It can a little bit but not really. If I see an open port on 8080, 80 to 90 I would probley assume it was a webserver. Changing the ports protects you from really badly writen automated attacks but if a human enters the loop at some point it won't help much. But did you put the address like this http://address:portnumber http://127.0.0.1:
jack111 0 Posted June 1, 2006 yes I did but it did not help much. But I have reverted to port 80 and all is working well. Since we are on the security theme would be grateful if you could tell me how well protected my pc is. Find the specifications and details of my pc in the signature. Now the pc only runs geo vision software I have disabled the features below, Error Reporting Service Fast User Switching Help & Support Indexing Service Messenger Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing Remote Access Auto Connection Manager Remote Access Connection Manager Remote Desktop Help Session Manager Remote Registry Routing and Remote Access Security Accounts Manager (unless you use IIS) Security Center System Restore Service Themes Universal Plug and Play Host Wireless Zero Configuration (unless you use wireless) Used ccleaner to clean up pc http://www.ccleaner.com/ So only go geovision software runing on it. have uninstall IE and windows messenger using mozilla firefox instead. The pc is clean for virus check. Have windows firewall enabled and in my exceptions have allowed port 80 4550 and 5550 and have allowed the programs below blast tcp application Webcam Dynamic DNS server HTTP SERVER Microsoft Management Console Multicam remote view system Register Dynamic IP TcpSvr Application DMWebcam.exe port 80 opened DMWebcam.exe port 4550 opened DMWebcam.exe port 5550 opened Local area in services on ly FTP server is allowed. No other process are runing apart form geovision, TcpSvr application and webcam server Connect to the internet via a linksys router with port forwarding 80 , 4550 and 5550 Firewall in router is enalbed and Filter Multicast and Filter IDENT(Port 113) boxes are ticked. How SAFE is my box from being hacked into.
Thomas 0 Posted June 1, 2006 It's not a question that you can give an easy answer for. As far as I know there are no zero-day (non-reported, but existing in hacker/script kiddie communities) exploits for any verison of Geovision. It doesn't mean they might not exist, and it doesn't mean they do exist, it just means that none are known right now. There are no known zero-day exploits for the various Linksys firmwares. But again, that just means we don't know if they exist. The network security rule of thumb is that paranoia is the rule. The only secure computer is one with no inputs, encased in a block of concret and dumped into the ocean.
rory 0 Posted June 1, 2006 Make sure port 82 was setup in Geo webCam, Port Forwarded, and also opened in the windows Firewall.
rory 0 Posted June 1, 2006 here's an example of setting up Geo and Port Filtering, using Port 8234 instead of port 80 for the web cam. Turning on Filtering for UDP and IP Protocols makes only those ports for Geo available, incoming. You wont be able to browse the web or use any other port at all. I just set it up on another PC and the geoweb cam ports work fine like this, and using my program I can stream video. 5900 is for Ultra VNC btw ..
