lola2001 0 Posted October 2, 2016 I currently have a Foscam outdoor PTZ dome camera. It's a piece of crap and I need to replace it. I was thinking of a Lorex system however I just have a couple of questions about dome cameras in general. Why do some PTZ cameras require a power source and others are POE? I thought POE could only work on non PTZ cameras? Do I need a NVR or DVR in order to see my cameras remotely from my cell or a computer? And if not, can anyone tell me what I DO need? My Foscam is an IP camera that is suppose to be viewable on an app on my phone but it only ever worked for a couple of days and then not since then. Foscam customer service is bad, I want to buy a system from a reliable company with good customer service. Any advice on this? Thank you for your time L
51cent 8 Posted October 5, 2016 A quality ip cam with a micro sd card should fit the bill, no dvr needed. I would suggest TinyCam pro for viewing over android, the owner actually responds and answers questions. With poe, power and data go over the same ethernet wire, so you don't need 120v at the camera, plus an ethernet wire or wireless. Where you buy your cameras is just as important as brand. Buying from e bay or aliexpress brings good prices and unknown support.
jesseallen 0 Posted October 6, 2016 You can always put your money in the popular brands like Dahua or Hikvision. You'll need a wired setup (and go for POE) to get the feed on your computer. And there are good brands that offer you an option to stream to your phone as well. Look around for a local installer and stick with your budget. Good Luck.
