jdaniels 0 Posted October 26, 2016 Hi We are getting a contractor to surface a airport parking lot of about 150m (500ft) by 80m (260ft) We are intending to lay electrical and CCTV cabling for large parts of the lot before the surfacing begins. We will want to install some (7 or additional cameras in the future. There is an old analogue system installed and a small about of coax cabling. Am I correct in assuming we should probably go for newer IP system and lay fiber optic or Ethernet cabling rather than continuing to use coaxial? Are there disadvantages with laying fiber optic cabling in this instance? My second question what is typically the most straightforward way of keeping the current analog's and over time convert them to IP as needed? Any advice on installing this would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.
jeromephone 6 Posted October 27, 2016 If you could show some kind of layout it would help. If you do go to fiber you would need power for a media converter and a POE switch on the camera end of things. I would look at multi pair fiber optic cable and make sure it is outdoor or direct bury rated. I would have them install 12 strand at a minimum you never know what other stuff may run on ethernet and their may be a need to physically separate the camera traffic from some other devices.
