newbuild123 0 Posted December 1, 2016 Hi - I'm trying to figure out what cameras to install for a new gas station we are building. I'm not a CCTV expert which is why I'm here. Basically I need to know if I should be using IP cameras or HD over analog (and hence run cat5 or coax cables). I need cameras inside the retail store (not big - 1200sqft) and cameras outside (include covering 4 fuel pumps). I need to make a decision regarding coax or cat5 ASAP so any advise is appreciated. Also - anyone have experience with optiview cameras? http://optiviewusa.com/ My current CCTV guy is recommending using HDover coax cameras from optiview (and run coax cables). I was doing a little research to make sure this is the best option. thanks
Securame 0 Posted December 1, 2016 Run Cat6 better than Cat5. Forget about coax, if you want to use HD over coaxial cable, at least use UTP cable witb baluns.
jeromephone 6 Posted December 1, 2016 I would go with cat 6 also and look into if by code in your area you need outdoor rated and or plenum rated cable. I know that there are specific requirements for fire blocking conduit from pump islands to main building.
