NVR UI's that aren't horrible?

Recommended Posts

I bought a relatively newish model LaView system with 10 4MP cameras a week ago and the UI and web interface is so bad I'm returning the entire package. Sure, how the user interface looks and how easy it is to use isn't everything, but it's a BIG PIECE of what makes an all-in-one package worth buying.

I've studied this forum quite a bit and I can tell no one likes the zero-effort, lazy "can you guys recommend " posts. I can assure you I've lost days of my life researching options on cameras and NVR specs. But... I'm not aware of any manufacturer / rebrand seller that provides any detail on the UI of their product. I've searched this forum and see relatively few mentions.

Do those of you who are very serious about your surveillance systems not use dedicated systems? Is a dedicated NVR the equivalent of calling AOL "the internet"? Are there vendors whose NVR UI is widely perceived to get high marks?

I'm willing to drop $1500 on a solid system and a few cameras, but man... I really don't want to go into another dedicated system rolling the dice on whether or not the UI blows or is impossible to use!

I'd really love your feedback.

I have yet to see a DVR/NVR that is even remotely intuitive. If you want better you need to look at VMS software with a computer/server.

I appreciate the feedback. I'll look into those.
