Milenko 0 Posted June 14, 2006 Hi all, I'm a CCTV noob, but I'm learning a lot from this site. I've been browsing for outdoor cameras and I was wondering if anyone has experience with the one I've picked out. prosecuritywarehouse.com has a combo deal that looks like it'd be a good camera. You can view the package by clicking the link below and scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page. [edit by mod - link removed] I'd also be interested in any suggestions you might have based on your past experiences. I'm looking for something to cover two outside parking lots, so I'd like to have vari-focal and auto-iris lens. It gets pretty cold here in eastern PA during the winter and can also get very hot during the summer, so I'll need an enclosure with a heater and blower. We'd like to keep the cost per camera (cam+housing+lens) to somewhere around $300. All of our existing bullet cams are 12VDC, but I see most CCTV type cameras are 24VAC (same with heaters and blowers). Is the Altronix ALTV2416 a good power supply? It looks like exactly what I need, but I have no experience with that brand name. Thanks, Jeremy
securitymonster 0 Posted June 14, 2006 Hello Jeremy and welcome to the forum, The combo package you are referring to seems to be just fine. The camera is rated at 0.5 lux, so you'll need to have some exterior lighting provided for the camera. I haven't used that particular camera before but the camera specs seem to be good. I know the computar lens is great, I sell a ton of those. And as for the housing, its your standard clam shell housing and should work just fine, just be sure to get the heater/blower combo. Altronix power supplies are very popular, they have a good reputation. If you have some 12VDC cameras, you can use this 24V AC power supply and before you hit the cameras, you can use a 24V AC to 12V DC converter if you want. They are around $20 each. Good luck and let us know how you like the setup.
Milenko 0 Posted June 14, 2006 Thanks for taking a look at the camera for me. I'm going to order one tomorrow and I'll post back once I have a chance to play with it a bit. Our parking lots are very well lit at night, so light levels shouldn't be much of a problem.
