Michael 0 Posted June 19, 2006 Hi guys, I have a customer who has a dvr with 16 ICU520XI-18-DV cameras and now all of a sudden they are strating to dye at first 2 then 3 now he has 6 dead. He has had a sparkie check out the wiring and voltages at each camera and they can't find anything to be the cuase they also have a UPS hooked up to regulate the power for the cameras. rory 0 Posted June 19, 2006 Does the UPS have Automatic Voltage Regulation Built in, or is it just a standard UPS?
Michael 0 Posted June 19, 2006 This is a link for the UPS they are using: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Product_Id=137904 Also the strange thin is that three cameras that died are on the UPS and the other three were on the normal power. Plus i have another one which i am in the process of replacing for him
rory 0 Posted June 19, 2006 Weird. that UPS has AVR specifically .. Could just be a bad batch of cameras .. i recently had a bunch of domes come in and one of them just up an died a week or so later and was on a UPS with AVR also .. how long were they installed before this happenned? Normally most faulty cameras will die in the beginning rather than down the road .. also, are you sure the Power suppy is putting out the right amount of amps ..? Michael 0 Posted June 19, 2006 The cameras have been up for about 2 weeks and the sparky said the UPS is putting out the right voltages for the cameras. So i am not sure what the problem is?
karlos 0 Posted June 22, 2006 The cameras hgave been up about a month and started failing at 3-4 weeks - we have had 7 fail from 16 in the last 2 weeks! My customer is not happy... A few thoughts re this problem: -Is there a preference to run on 24VAC or 12VDC? -Could there be an issue with the length of coax and power cable…up to 80m -Could there be an issue with shielding of the cabling if it is running next to 240volt cable -The cameras have a lux adjustment. When the lense is covered on the failed ones it swiches as if adjusting for the light… So the sensor is working but no video... Any ideas?
jisaac 0 Posted June 23, 2006 (edited) are you sure that your ups with surge protection is plugged into an outlet that is properly grounded? because if not then the surge protector is useless. That might be one thing to check. Also the cameras that are going out are they outside or inside? if they are outside are you sure they are 100% weatherproof? If they are then are you sure that the connectors from the camera that are connecting to your wire is 100% waterproof? I have done that before where the connections are not 100% sealed and water got on the connections and oops. Now I make everyone use silicone tape then electrical tape. And it has to be done a SPECIFIC way cause that was a costly mistake I had made. Might want to check those things. Edited June 23, 2006 by Guest
jisaac 0 Posted June 23, 2006 oh ya and the question about the shielding running next to 240v. How close is the cable running to the 240? Is it running parallel? Or intersecting? Usually if you are not running along side it you wont have any problems. That is as long as you dont some how double ground your cable. Induced Voltage will travel on your shielding but in no way should make your cameras go out. If you had induced voltage (ground loop) it would usually create black rolling bars on your screen or even make your dvr shut on and off and on and off and on and off. But should not make your cameras go out.
