GE Kalatel, all the above except viewing logs, but you can have email alert on connection, etc, and if using a router can view logs through that.

That is the device itself i mean, for software, you can make your own and have logs, etc, anything you want.

Top seller in the U.S. is DM, probably Kalatel second. After that it's a jumble. Nuvico/Vitek seems to be gaining in popularity. Samsung is also a big seller. I wish there were a perfect embedded system, but just like the PC based controversy there is no clear winner once you get past DM and Kalatel.

Its pretty good qulaity images... being Mpeg2 though it is packed pretty tight on recording, I dont like the search feature and it is a little slow on commands but for the price it is ok!

It is not a patch on the Kaltel but no where near the price and faster!

also, anywhere to demo the remote software?

Everyone has a computer monitor, thats a nice option.

1Gb flash is a nice option also.

Who sells them in the US?

Yeah, I have a colleague that wants to sell these Provideos as cheap alternatives, Im trying to find him a better product, cheaper or at least better and still cheap, all in one like this. The recording is 30fps and the display is 480fps right? Or is that only on the 16 channel?

I looked over the specifications and the one thing I don't like is the inability to plug in a CD/RW for backup. I'm not a big fan of flash memory backup and prefer to have a direct USB connection to put on a CD/RW or DVD/RW. According to the specifications there is no ability to handle this.

That has been a shortcoming of a lot of lower cost embedded DVRs.

Yes it can, you can remove the drive and also can do it remotely over the network, the one thing I did like is the remopte interface is exactly the same as the main interface so it is just like being there only slower, I like the idea of flash because you can upgrade so easy with flash rom's.

I have to agree with AV this is why dedicated and Kalatel are good CD Backup!!! but the price is just not justified, I sell the thing for about half the price of the dedicated micros dvr, and it has more features, the only thing is that the search engine sucks and it does not support PSTN, I dont think the kalatel does either but Dedicated Micros does... As far as I can see the kalatel is still the top dog... even if slow but the price is soooooo darn high, we are looking at some others but thats the deal... i reckon that in order to call something a standalone it should be nothing like a PC but in relaity the only way to havea CDRW is to have a PC Based standalone like the Kalatel.

I found the Kalatel very hard to use at first but then it was a breeze the second time around, it was so fully featured it nearly compared with Geo, the let down was the limited speed and the WAY OVER EXPENSIVE PRICE!

but it is a good machine none the less.. just wish it was cheaper and faster!!

I do not really consider 35 or 50 fps to be enough on 16 cams

i only sell the DVMRe Kalatel unit now for 10 or 16 cameras, its 60pps, slim build, same size of their multiplexers, no CD, but many more features than the StoreSafe. It goes up to 1TB, rackmountable, same embedded OS. For some reason it is also cheaper than the StoreSafe in the 16 channel Unit, and that is strange since it is their best unit (not including the Clear Cast Unit). So StoreSafe is only one version of their DVR line

Apparently the new Kalatel unit coming out, DVMRe PRO is 120pps, with a DVD-RW unit and much more.

They can also use phone lines to connect to the devices, that is something they have mastered especially with the RSM-1600.

Price is not an issue for most of my clients, but it is for me

I too wish it was cheaper, and had more audio ports, and well there are other things that could be added. Price wise it is cheaper than Phillips, DM, or any other in that catagory.

DM was my first choice originally, mainly because I liked the look of their remote software, but Kalatel's software is more powerful, plain, but does much more.

That is interesting, the DM is actually cheaper here than the Kalatel, i think the DM looks nicer and has very nice software and good remote softwrae, but the Kalatel has much more features and is more Rock Solid, it does have a really ugly interface but it is well structured, if it wasnt so darn slow and expensive I might push it myself, the good thing about the Kalatel is that every feature works well... no flaws which is impressive... I did manage to crash the Kalatel more than the DM but inside the Kalatel is well resourced, and well built.. good engineering, the DM just has good software and has more of an emphasis on retail.. but it is a fair bit cheaper.

He is talking about the DVMRe, not the storesafe, 2 different monsters alltogether.

Never crashed a Kalatel DVR yet myself, i mean its an embedded Eprom, but anything is possible, its all just electronics.

I prefer the Kalatel Remote software over DM, more simple, easier to use, and does more. DM was my original choice, as like you said, looks pretty, but went with kalatel, as like i said above. I like Kalatel's look better also, more professional, and they also actually make CCTV products, unline DM, so they know their business.

DM is much more expensive on this side of the world.

Rory you have any info / specs on the Katatel DVMRe Pro that coming out

I found this :

http://www.ismrep.com/news.html

but thats all I could find

Interesting, I was told by one of the engineers, it will have 120pps, and a DVD-RW, the image on that page just looks like a StoreSafe (not DVMRe) with a different CD-RW, all other features show no change, so dont hold your breath on their heresay, wait for the actual product, ill let the forum know as soon as its near release.
