5spdfrk 0 Posted March 10, 2017 Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been doing some research as I'm in the market for a 4-8 camera system for home security. Trying to keep it under $1,000 if possible. Obviously, most on this forum are big fans of Hik and Dahua. While I wish I had the time and money to build out a top shelf system on my own, I'm currently looking for something already put together that I can "plug-n-play." After some research, I've seen that some of the Lorex systems use re-branded Dahua cams. Specifically the ones ordered direct and not from a big box store like Costco or the like. I'm considering the four systems below. Is there a way to tell if they're re-branded Dahua's or not? Also, given my newb-ness to these products, if I'm way off base with any of my thoughts, please feel free to steer me in the right direction as I'm open to other options if better suited within my budget. Thanks in advance! #1: https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-ip-security-camera-system/hd-security-camera-system-with-2k-recorder-weatherproof-cameras/LN10802-84W-1-p Pros: -Pretty sure this one uses re-branded Dahua cams according, as tomcctv recommended it as such in another thread -Well under budget -130ft of night vision with newer LED style -2.8mm lens Cons: 75° FOV, narrower than other options on my list #2: https://lorextechnology.com/hd-ip-security-camera-system/8-channel-security-camera-system-with-6-hd-surveillance-cameras/LN10804-86W-1-p Pros: -4MP cameras instead of 3MP from option #1 & 3 -130ft of color night vision -83° FOV Cons: -3.6mm lens not as wide as option #1 -Towards top of budget -Color night vision a marketing gimmick? Is it really better than traditional black and white? #3: https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-ip-security-camera-system/high-definition-security-surveillance-system-with-8-cameras/LN10802-168W-1-p Pros: -Basically an 8 camera system of option #1 from what I can tell, same pros apply -3TB HD Cons: -Basically an 8 camera system of option #1 from what I can tell, same cons apply -Towards top of budget #4: https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-ip-security-camera-system/4k-ultra-hd-ip-nvr-security-camera-system-with-8-ip-cameras/HDIP88BW-1-p Pros: -4MP cameras instead of 3MP from option #1 & 3 -90° FOV, widest option of all -2.8mm lens -3TB HD Cons: -90ft of night vision using traditional style LEDs -Top of budget
5spdfrk 0 Posted March 14, 2017 Given the lack of response, did I post this in the incorrect sub-forum? If so, could a mod please move it to the correct one?
tomcctv 190 Posted March 14, 2017 Hi lorex are not rebadged dahua. Lorex is owned by flir and flir are licences to build with dahua software there own system. As does another company called ic realtime. As for colour or black and white at night..... colour are called starlight and do work much better than black and white. I would look at the 4mp
5spdfrk 0 Posted March 14, 2017 Hi Tom, I appreciate your reply! I misunderstood your response in this thread (http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=53204) thinking that Lorex cameras were Dahua. I see now you were specifically talking about the software aspect of the system and not the cameras themselves. I'll look into the 4MP with color night vision, thanks for your recommendation!
