DVR Recommendation

Recommended Posts

I work for a non-profit. We needed a camera security system and got one from Costco about three years ago complete with 8 cameras and an HD. At first everything worked perfect, we could remotely connect from our other building, or any device with an internet connection.

As time went on we had issues, almost always it was because of QSee's awful software. It seemed every update they did made things worse. Officially all browsers are now incompatible with QSee remote software, and when we tried to install their official remote software on a company computer a number of security flags popped up.

The company has decided (thanks to our volunteer IT person) to get rid of the DVR and keep the cameras and replace it with one made by a company with reliable software. Since we are a non-profit we aren't rolling in money and cannot afford something over $300.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good 8+ channel DVR? We need something with an HD and of course, good reliable remote access software. And a company that will properly update it.

Before you purchase any dvr or nvr ,you must figure out what type of camera's you have .do they have bnc connectors or modular ethernet plugs .if you have bnc connectors and your camera's are hi-def and 3 years old ,they may be hd-sdi technology .then you would need an hd-sdi dvr .

I'm not 100% sure but I think qsee is made by dahua so you may have hd-cvi technology camera's .if that's the case ,then you need an hd-cvi dvr .im sure someone on here knows if qsee ever used hd-tvi or ahd technologies .

If your camera's are standard definition analog cam's, then you would need an analog dvr .if this is the case then you may want to consider a hybrid hvr which will work with standard def. analog cam's and let you upgrade to hi def cams as need be .

Google your camera model # or dvr model # to find out exactly what technology format you have .only then can you shop for a dvr .

Also , You should be able to install the hard drive from the old dvr in the new dvr to save some money .
