Thoughts on using an old, broken NVR as a decoy?

I'm concerned about folks breaking into my cabin in the woods and attempting to cover their tracks by breaking my NVR. I'm considering putting an old, maybe broken or partially broken (as in maybe the lights still function) NVR with some "cables to nowhere" as a decoy if they decide to try to smash/steal one.

 

Anyone done anything like this (or have a broken NVR they might part with)?

You could have your storage drives off site and record on them through web. That way if someone breaks in and smashes your NVR, you still have footage.

Problem with "web" is my internet connection is over cellular and is less than 1MB upload.
