dudeman135 0 Posted June 28, 2017 I've been researching new systems to death, never having had a system prior. I'm wanting to get one that has some future proofing to it and the higher compression that h.265 offers, seems appealing. Specifically I've found the Dahau DAN42B2P from B&H that has everything I'm looking for a decent price. When it comes to h.265, do both the NVR and the cameras have to be capable of the level of compression? If so, the additional cost of newer cameras capable of this level of compression might not be justified, when for now I could just get a higher TB HDD. Securame 0 Posted June 28, 2017 If the NVR supports H265 and the cameras are H264, it will just work in H264. But later you will be able to replace the cameras with H265 capable cameras. If the NVR supports H264 and the cameras are H265, you will have to make sure the cameras are configured in H264, or it will not work (they will probably come by default in H264).
