Help Me Choose Proper Spec IR Iluminator!

Recommended Posts

I am a complete novice at IR illuminators but learning slowly.

I want to add an IR illuminator to get better night vision on my security cams.

What I want to do is to see over a wall which runs parallel to the street. The wall is white so any IR light pointing at the wall will reflect back and illuminate the wall further. I plan to aim it toward the street.

The wall is about 15 feet in front of the cam which is mounted about 10 feet high. The wall is about 6 feet tall.

I look on amazon and I see IR illumimators selling for anywhere from $12.99 to about $69,99 which seem suitable. Initially I thought the higher price the better but I realize it might be overkill and I wont be able to achive my objective? For example, I bought one at a local store which claims distance of 250 feet. But in testing this out inside my garage and reading the spec sheet I realize and see the emission angle is only 15 feet. So its operating like a bullet.

I want a WIDE view illuminated beyond 15 feet and over a wall. I want to be able to see the surface of the street with clarity. For example, if there is trash on the street, I want to see it. Or if there is a suspicious vehicle parked on the other side of the wall, I want to be able to see it.

The models I am considering are CM Vision

IR15 (60 to 80 feet), http://www.cmvision.co/products/cmvision-cm-ir15-wide-angle-15pc-power-ir-led-illuminator.html

IR 110 (60 feet) , http://www.cmvision.co/products/cmvision-cm-ir110-114-leds-200-300ft-long-range-ir-illuminator.html

CM IR30 (60 to 90 feet), http://www.cmvision.co/products/cmvision-cm-ir30-60-90degree-view-without-power-supply-ir-illuminator.html

IR 40 (60 to 90 feet), http://www.cmvision.co/products/cmvision-ir40-wideangle-120-feet-4pc-power-led-ir-array-illuminator.html

If you have other suggestions, I am also open. Just not familiar with this and want to buy the right illuminator for my needs.

Thanks in advance!

Arlo Pro. I know its not commercial grade like you folks install but this is easiest for me. I find that the night vision is not as good. 51cent, how does the adjustable IR light work? Does it permit changing the viewing angles? Meaning I can widen or narrow the range and customize it to the area I want to illuminate? If so, what is the range?

Hi. Your cam has a fixed 130 deg lens so no point buying adjustable IR.

I don't think you can switch off the IR on the arlo

The arlo is the wrong camera to do anything with.

15ft wall distance ....... 6ft high wall ..... 10ft high 130deg cameras
