bootsnmitts76 0 Posted August 26, 2017 Hello, I have the Defender PRO Sentinel 8CH H.264 2TB Security cameras wth night vision installed on my property. Had them for a little over a year, always worked great never any issues. We had a severe thunderstorm last week and lightning struck an electrical pole outside our house, we did not lose power, after this only 2 of the 8 cameras had night vision. The next night 4 out of the 8 cameras went into night vision, tonight none of them went into night vision. We contacted tech support last week and they told us it sounds like a power issue and recommended we replace the 2 squids, and power supplies, we did this and still no night vision. We also tried a new surge protector, tried using wall outlets, unplugged whole system for several minutes, reset breakers in the house. When the cameras did work at night, the led lights were bright red, now they are a very pale pink color at night. Would it be possible that a power surge from lightning that hit the pole outside may have did some slight damage to the dvr internal power supply preventing it to give off enough power to allow nightvision to kick on? We are baffled about this since all the cameras work perfectly in the daylight and dvr seems to be working fine. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
GadgetAssistant 0 Posted August 26, 2017 Hello. Sounds like it was the camera LED's that bore the brunt of the lightning strike damage. You have already invested in replacing the power supply to the camera; you might want to consider the extra step of providing an external LED light source for the cameras, since they seem to work during the day. bootsnmitts76 0 Posted August 26, 2017 Thank you for your response, that makes sense, but what I do not understand is why only 2 were working after this storm, then next night 4 were working, then last night none were working, then one started to work again last night for maybe hour or so then went out again, if lightning did hit and knock out the led's wouldn't they stop working all together at night right after the storm? Last night we unplugged the whole system and we plan on plugging it back in and trying it tonight, I will be back on the phone with tech support Monday morning. bootsnmitts76 0 Posted August 27, 2017 UPDATE We plugged camera's and dvr back in after be unplugged for 24 hours, still no luck with night vision until a spotlight came on in the back when spotlight went out night vision kicked on and stayed on, on the 2 cameras out back. I was unplugging the cameras one by one from back of dvr and power source to see if maybe one of the cameras were causing a power drain, as I was doing this, as soon as i hooked power back up to the camera, night vision kicked in for a few seconds then went out again. I am going to call the electric company on Monday to see if they can come out and test the voltage from the line on the pole that was struck by lightning, to the line that comes into our house.
