Jewrrick 0 Posted September 21, 2017 I am needing 5 cameras around the house and I need wireless with local DVR, no cloud storage. 4 will be indoor cameras and 1 outdoor, I would like to be able to use solar power for the outdoor one, so a camera with battery back-up would be needed. I'm not tied to a brand, and right now I'm on about a $600 budget but I can flex that a little bit with some time.
51cent 8 Posted September 21, 2017 Rick, wireless is not considered reliable for security, it will fail/miss at the wrong time. Do a forum search for "solar", there are several threads on solar powered.
Sentience Security S 0 Posted October 9, 2017 Solar isn’t going to happen at that budget. Really not much of anything is going to happen at that price point lol. If you want to use wireless you still have to run power to the cameras. You can use the supplier power supplies to run 12-24V to the cameras and then connect them to your WiFi. The signal will be spotty, however, so you’ll want to install a mesh WiFi system to support it. All in all you’ll be much better off running a dedicated line to each camera (Home run).
