GV Software 8.02 Video review question.

Recommended Posts

I have just built a GV-650 system. I like the system overall but there seems to be multiple ways of doing things in the software and also with different pieces of software.

In your opinion what is the best component (Software Piece) to review video on the local machine or over a LAN. I have browsed the manual briefly and have plans to print and read the whole thing (309 Pages..ouch) and I can't distinguish the differences between certain software components.

I am looking for something similar to the review and export functionality of other DVR's I have worked with (Adpro FastTrace, Integral DVX, 3r, CoVi etc.

This was a very simple installation overall al long as you do your homework. I used a Compaq dc7600 Small Form Factor computer with onboard Intel Video (950), 2.8G HT proc, 512 DDR2 RAM. Originally is was looking for a half Height PCI DVR card but I found that Compaq makes a PCI riser for this PC...lucky me, the PC was given to me beacuse of its limited upgradeability.

I also wanted to thank those who make these forums work and spend so much time giving information to the rest of us who need it. I have been spending more time browsing here and hope that I can help others the way I have been helped. Having been in the industry for only 6 -7 years I still have a lot to learn, places like this make that possible, especially working for a small company where training is sometimes non-existant.

Thanks To All.

Hi, to playback locally you would use ViewLog .. if you want to download from a remote location to playback, you would use Remote Playback.

Just so you know, Remote Playback is a Server Client application, it is designed primarily for downloading of the video from a remote location using the Client software. You can playback the video also but it is compressed heavily for that purpose as you are basically streaming pieces of remote AVI files, it is slow, low quality from the massive compression, and not recommended for any serious reviewing. When you download the file though, it is the same as the file on the Remote DVR.

I have been using ViewLog with success. I had a little bit of confusion when recording continuously and marking motion events on how to review the video by the motion event...syslog viewer.

I have another question..

In the database folder where the .mdb files are kept there are 2 types of files sys*.mdb and pos*.mdb.

Is the pos files related to the POS functionality of the software?

If so if there any way to have the software not create the pos*.mdb file?

Each one is about 2MB and I am not using the POS functionality of this system.
