SomethingFishy2018 0 Posted January 13, 2018 Hey guys, I have just returned from a long night from a hotel I was staying at. I had a laptop stolen from my room and had a feeling it could have been an inside job. Was able to get the hotel to show me cctv footage of the hallway. An unknown man came to my room while I was out. He was standing in front of the door then he just literally *poof* disappeared. 20 minutes later, poof, re-appeared right in front of my door and walked away. I called police and had an officer review the footage. He said nothing they can do as there was no evidence of him actually entering the room. This whole thing seems fishy to me and I would really like a resolution. The laptop did not just walk away. It is obvious someone was in my room while I was out. It would seem to anyone with half a brain that this footage has been tampered with. What can I possibly do to convince police to investigate a possible tampering of evidence? tomcctv 190 Posted January 13, 2018 Hi. You would need to get a copy of the footage. Then you can check for watermark and signature. Both will tell you if the footage has been altered...... You need to ask for native file or footage direct from the recorder.

You need to ask for native file or footage direct from the recorder. They will only give it to police and the officer at the scene said there was nothing they could do. This was after waiting 14 hours on premises for the officer to come. Clock is ticking fast.

SomethingFishy2018 0 Posted January 13, 2018 But if hotel employees are working in cahoots with outsiders to rob guests and edit footage, it sounds like its bigger than a laptop. Also, having a random person enter a dwelling place could very well end up in a confrontation with a possibility of murder. This is not just theft but break and enter. That aside, I have reason to believe that this was a targeted attack and the hotel employees were simply paid off to cover it up. I won't go into detail, but this is my main concern. I couldn't give two craps about a laptop.

tomcctv 190 Posted January 14, 2018 Depends on what state you are in .... end of day it’s theft and yes police do have to be involved... Insurered.........they will not pay out without police report or at least there involvement. Google the hotel you stayed at ...... look at trip advisor see if others have had theft. Also look at your state laws for public space cctv ..... and public request to have a copy
