borednerd 0 Posted April 22, 2018 Hello, for years I've seen camera installers using good systems and make horrible mistakes and result is simply unacceptable. Last time my office had this nice CCTV system installed I think it was full HD non IP DVR setup and when something happened we find out that camera were recording at 640x480 instead of full HD. I guess tech forgot to set individual cameras. Anyhow back to my question. I have a small business and recently I've purchased Lorex NR908-N 4K NVR and LNB4421 IP Cameras. NVR Supports 8 channels but I only have 6 cameras right now. 2 Other cameras I need some help with that, but that's later. So here is my questions. I need to setup cameras certain way so NVR is not overloaded. I mean I looked at the manual and it's very confusing. It almost sounds like if I use 4K cameras on all 8 channels I can have 4K resolution running at 30FPS. Well that's complete lie because even cameras that I've got they are not 4K they're 4MP, that's only 2K and I can't get them to run at 30 fps. I mean I could may be 2, but rest will be like 20 then 16 then 10 and so on. Is there a REAL chart somewhere with all aspects of configuration I can look at. Because I do want High resolution, but at same time I wouldn't mind frame rate, and Very important for me is Length of recording. Because for example 30 days is not enough for me I'll need around 4 months because of some reality of business I am in. I thought because IP cameras do processing of video internally (do they?) like H.264 or H.265 encoding does inside the camera and NVR have to only record already encoded video it will not be limited to processing power so 4K on all 8 channels sounded fine with me but it looks like it's not working this way. So with that I need to get a perfect balance for NR900 series NVR. I mean it has to be some sort of ideal configuration that it can handle. Because right now I rally don't know what are "good" settings. I mean I'd love to get all bit rates and resolution to the maximum but I think it's not going to happen. Also my cameras can encode in H.264 and H.265. Because I do a lot of BluRay RIPS I know for a fact H.265 gets you a lot cleaner Video with better File size and that's very nice but my high end computer takes roughly 3x time to encode same video vs if it would of H.264, so again does camera REALLY does H.265 encoding in 2K resolution on the fly ? Or all it does sending RAW video to NVR and then NVR does the encoding, because if NVR does it hten say good bye to H.265, don't ever use it. Anyhow here is camera configuration pare, any hits are welcomed. My HDD is 2TB FYI. 1 More question. I need a Lorex camera for cash register that will be able to clearly look at cash register and any action around it. Cameras I already have angle is too wide, it's good for observing a room but sucks for watching a specific place. May be someone can recommend camera for cash register. Thank you ! jeromephone 6 Posted April 22, 2018 I can give you and idea on the cash register camera. get a camera with a varifocal lens something 3.5 to 9mm that will allow you to have a narrow field of view. check out the lens info on the top of the forum section,
borednerd 0 Posted April 22, 2018 I looked and it looked like they measure in angles and not focal length. I see smallest available is 39 degrees
jeromephone 6 Posted April 23, 2018 Well if I were to guess depending on the distance from the cash register i would go with a 3.5 to 9mm or in extreme cases 5-50mm
