marlboroa 0 Posted April 26, 2018 Hello, im going to put in a 16 camera system at my home. want the dvr and power supply box next to each other and im going to use cat5 line to run to each camera. my question is should i get a balun that has both power and video in one and then just put the rj45 on the ends of the wires or can i use seperate terminals for power and video? the ones that the cat5 wire is just held in place with a set screw. i do have 4 cameras that have mic's so i need to wire those up too. heres some examples of what i looking at. https://www.amazon.com/VIMVIP-PAIRS-Video-Balun-Transceiver/dp/B00QUI36AM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1524772454&sr=8-6&keywords=bnc+balun https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Transceiver-Connector-Security-Surveillance/dp/B0768VG2T7/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1524772454&sr=8-20&keywords=bnc+balun https://www.amazon.com/CRIVERS-2-1x5-5mm-Adapter-Connector-Coaxial/dp/B076GZC7R9/ref=sr_1_29?ie=UTF8&qid=1524773267&sr=8-29&keywords=bnc+balun
Securame 0 Posted April 27, 2018 If you want it well done and clean: Cat6, video+power baluns If you are cheap: Cat5, video only baluns, and power connectors. If you are even cheaper: Cat5, video only baluns, and power connectors, and you might even want to try using a single Cat5 for 2 or even 3 cameras.
tomcctv 190 Posted April 27, 2018 Hi. Your last link says it has baluns .... they are not baluns so don’t buy them. Using baluns it does not matter which cable you use cat5 cat6 alarm Standard baluns give you more options if you are also looking at audio I would use standard
