Can wireless go through brick walls?

I need to put a camera about 200 ft off. The problem is it's in another building which is separated by 1 ft wall of brick and sheet metal. Regular 2.4 ghz phone handsets work fine though, but I don't know if this is a good indication of how a wireless camera would perform.

The TX and RX will need to go outside, and point them directly at each other. They also will need to be at a height above any obstacles such as trucks, trees, etc. Metal will most definately block the signal.

 

You can go through bush, leaves, etc, but then that breaks down the distance of the signal, and theres a small chance that it will actually work most of the time. Water also cuts down/blocks the signal (trees contain water).

 

If you want guarenteed (almost) 99% of the time video without or limited inteference then you want direct line of site with no obstacles at all.

 

Use 900Mhz if you have to punch through walls, or 5.8 ghz for line of sight video.

The Wifi band is around 2,5 GHz, so do not expect more problems than with a 2,4 ghz phone handset..

 

The bricks are fine normally, metal sheet is really to be avoided but it seems to work with your regular phone...
