GeoVision Drive capacity

Recommended Posts

I am putting together a Geo 1480 PC. This is my first foray into PC-dvrs. Any limitation on the drive capacity? The motherboard will handle 9 drives (5 ide and 4 sata), so if I leave one drive for the OS, that means I can fit 8 drives x 500gb each. I'm assuming the GEo ver 8 software will see all the drives as one logical drive.

You just create a folder on each drive and then add those folders in the Add Location section ... i assume there is no limitation to how many you can add.

Which motherboard did you plan to use... the geovision cards can be iffy with different motherboards. For example... we used 1 model mobo and tried to use 1 onboard PATA (IDE) and then 4 SATA drives, it wouldnt boot. When we tried the next motherboard up in line (which replaced the mobo we used actually) it worked flawlessly...

so if your system freezes during post, you might want to try a different motherboard... but if its not freezing during post and its all booting fine. the HD's will read perfectly, justadd each drive/folder into the GeoVision setup screen.

The mobo is an Asus P5LD2. It has the Intel Southbridge chip (4 ATA133 + 4 SATA) plus another contoller on board for 1 DMA-100 and 1 ATAPI.

Even if some of drives gave me a problem I would throw in a low cost SATA or IDE controller in one of the pci slots as a workaround. Will be mounted in a COGEN rack chassis with a 550w powersupply.

Pentium D 930 3.0 mghz/800 FSB, 2 GB DDR2-667 mghz RAM, ATI Radeon 512mb video card

Not one logical drive, but it should have no issues seeing all drives. We have built a number of systems with 4.5Tb internal storage, 6x750Gb + DVDRW & OS drive.
