remote viewing setup problems

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have just set up my system, (GV 650) and all is going great - apart from an annoying beeping from the card which i think i know how to solve thanks to the search (reduce the amount of cameras its expecting to see)

I have just tried to set up the remote viewing and hit a brick wall!!! I have installed the software and the remote software, but when setting it up its asking for IP addresses and lots of other information that's slightly confused me. what IP address is it, a IP of some web hosting to store the video???

I have a DSL router i wish to go through. How do i set up the settings, or obtain the IP address. Then how would i log into it??

What username and password is it asking for in the remote settings - my geovision one, web space server one, or my internet service provider username & pass?

Please help, im baffled!!

Thank You

Jamie

Not sure if you found the answer to this yet, but I came across this thread and did not see any relevant replies so here goes:

The ip address that it is asking for is the computer you have the geo software installed on. Easiest way to find this is from that pc, open a command prompt and type "ipconfig". This will give you your ip address.

As for your dsl router, assuming it is acting as a firewall/router, you will have to forward a couple of ports to the ip you just found. Forward port 4550 and 5550 if you are using geo's web server, accessed through IE. Forward port 3550 if you are using the multicam remote viewing system. If you have a software firewall running on the geo pc, you will have to allow those ports as well.

If you have a static ip address (from which the dsl provider assigns to you, different from the ip address you just found through ipconfig) you will need to use that ip from the other pc you have connected through the internet away from the geo pc. The easiest way to find your 'true' ip address is go to www.whatsmyip.org and that will reveal your ip. Use this ip from the second pc that you are running the remote view and type that ip along with the port number - say 123.456.789.09:3550 for mulitview.

The username it is asking for is the user name you use to access the geo software on the geo pc.

hope this helps, someone else chime in if I have something wrong.

It is not as difficult as it seems.

First - install and register with DDNS service (included with your GeoVision CD). This service will show you your IP address you should write to access your cameras. Second - you have to open ports in your router. Access your router (see documentation, it could be something like 168.192.0.1, or 10.1.10.1 if you use Comcast cable modem with router) and open ports for the specific PC (if you use only one - should be no problems determining witch one). To make sure - open main Geovision program and check the setup - PC IP will be listed. This is PC IP you need to input to the router. For remote view you will need to open 3550. All ports needed for different applications are listed in manual. You can log-in with any of the password listed in the Geovision main program.

Thanks guys.

I have got it working on remote view over the network, and on a laptop through the net (using my NO - IP account) but when i go home and try it it wont work, but when i put in the IP or no ip address into internet explorer it comes up with a page not found, not the router login page as it should.

Do you think the router goes into standby when not used, or maybe the broadband standby??? Somethings not right. as i say when i'm there i can get it on laptop. Its only when its left for a bit. I have a netgear router and BT Broadband. It it is any way to stop it doing this?

Cheers

Jamie.

I think that net gear will not allow you to access itself m meaning i think you are trying to go out to the internet and come back to the same computer, I could be wrong.
