Menus don't show up

Hello I have a

Dvr5108ss system and the buttons don't bring up the menus. I've reset the system multiple times. I am getting video, but cannot go through menus.

Remote doesn't work either.

 

It feels like possibly they menus are there but invisible, as if I keep mashing buttons something happens.

This system was already there and I don't really have any manuals or knowledge from the previous owner.

Any help would be appreciated.
