rory 0 Posted September 19, 2006 Very Budget DVR... http://www.hisharp.com.tw/hisharp_eng/product.htm
rory 0 Posted September 19, 2006 Are you PC literate .. i mean enough to build your own PC DVR system? Most retailers sell Geo Vision .. pretty much guaranteed support at least from members on this forum .. You could still buy a ready made PC and then you'd just have to put the card in and load the software .. one of us can assist with setup .. Otherwise the budget standalones arent that great... unless you go with names like GE, Bosch, Webgate, Sanyo, etc ... the OEM versions are pretty featureless and typically low quality .. so much so I simply gave up on them .. there was a decent OEM 4 channel from PowerTellecom but they discontinued it .. ofcourse it was also the same menu programming as the other budgets but solid for the low price .. plus the remote network software was good compared to say the Hi Sharp for example .. Another 4 channel but double the price was the Active-Tek .. they dont seem to sell it anymore though .. strange as it was a good unit with USB and Remote Admin software, Remote PTZ etc .. .. I always judge them on their Remote Network software, well also image quality and backup options ... Right now with Stand Alones I still stick with the GE StoreSafe .. not cheap but a rock solid unit .. though PC based systems are basically Customs Duty free in my country to import so we deal in those mostly now .. and ive stopped testing at Geo Vision since last summer .. stable software and reliable cards. Tested many of the budget stand alone 4 and 16 channel DVRs over the years looking for the best cheapest unit (never found it in the end) ... The latest moderately budget stand alone DVR we tested was yet another PowerTellecom unit .. but in this case it is an Embedded Board which you just buy a PC Case for (no guts) and its ready to go .. Remote Network software seemed like it was unfinished .. but worked .. locally it is great quality and has the IR remote ... features are basic but it does work .. AV Tech is probably still the best for the ultra budget units with 4 channels at half the price of the one you were looking at .. but their remote network software really isnt hat great .. i mean it works though .. locally they are more like quads where they are 320x240 per image in 4 way view ... There are some Stand Alones (and PC Based) from the advertiser companies (banner ads) which are decent and worth checking out. Also we only allow Retail Pricing on the forums .. had alot of issues in the past which is why that rule was put in place .. Also there are many online stores selling at dealer pricing now adays . with that comes very little support if any, and also short or limited warrantees ... since they make very little on the sales to keep the prices that low ... though the customer should realise the dealer/installer must charge something to stay in business ..
