Mixing cameras.

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a cctv system and have been told to go for the NVR type rather than DVR but as there's so much stuff out there I don't know what I'm looking for.

I live in a semi detached and want 2 cameras at the front, I'm thinking the ones that give a colour picture at night would be best but I think these have a permanent led light on when dark. I would like 1 at the side and 1 at the rear. The side of the house has my next door neighbour's bedroom and a downstairs study in view so I don't want an led light disturbing them so I'm thinking that an infrared camera giving black and white images on the side and at the rear of the property would be better suited. Would I be able to feed both types of camera on to the same system?

Another possibility, if it's available is to have a camera that records in infrared (b&w) but when the motion sensor is triggered an led light comes on to record in colour for the time the led is on.

I'm a new member and just introduced myself. Before I posted this topic I have done a quick search and found nothing (I may well have been putting the wrong key words in) so I thought I would jump straight in.

yes there are a lot of lowlight cameras on the market .... starlight....TIOC  what is the lighting like around your home

yes I would also recommend a IP system but there is no difference any more between IP and HD analog both do the same with same quality but IP is much easier to install and easy options if you have a location you can’t get cables to you can use power line adapters

it all depends on your budget

I have a street light at the front of my house whilst the side isn't as light and it's pretty dark at the rear.

Then you should be ok from front and like you say camera with IR on rear

Good budget will get you a good system 

I would also have audio on front camera

if you are installing yourself best place for cat5 is tool station

I have just seen this which is under budget but I can't see if I can mask areas off the camera as one of the cameras will be partly pointing at my next door neighbours window. It also has LEDs so there isn't a white light permanently shining. I have a PIR floodlight in the back garden which will be triggered when anyone is in the area so this may even activate a colour image.

I had a chap from Rossendale give me a quote of £880 fitted (he buys direct from the manufacturer in bulk passing some of the saving on to the customer) for a 4 camera 2tb nvr system with the cameras that have a permanent led light on in the hours of darkness with 100ft colour image at night.

This is above my budget plus I don't want the side and rear of my property lit up all night as this would annoy the neighbours.

buys in bulk probably means eBay also means no warranty 

you also need to take into account the different types of IR .... your link above is the old type 36ir these light up red at night so you can see them

Hi will you be connecting to your existing tv or use a monitor. 
 

your budget allows for 4K system with starlight cameras

that’s  an 8 way nvr  also with remote viewing on your phone or pad using SuperLive plus app which is on of the best to use your have full control

i would buy nvr and 2 cameras to start with see which is best for your needs out of the two night vision

This is where my knowledge breaks down. I was thinking that I would just view any footage om my phone and if I needed any recordings saving there would be an option to do that I do have an old tv I could connect to via a HDM cable if that's possible? I have looked at Toolsatation and to be honest I'm getting confused with what their products are and searching for Cat5 doesn't help. I think I need to talk to a retailer and see what's best for me but I'm frightened of them selling me what they want to rather than what is best for me.

Hi yes your right all control can be done by phone pad or pc
