Problems with Kodicom 8800 and Intel 945 & 915 chipset..

Recommended Posts

Guys, I am using Kodicom 8800 on Asus P5LD2 Deluxe motherboard (945 chipset) under WinXP Pro. I think the card works fine but I have some problems with the software for it (DigiNet Site v4.13)- the software is ALWAYS ON TOP OF EVERYTHING- the start button cannot be accessed and Task manager is no longer working, when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL. And the Wellcome screen has been changed since I have installed the DigiNet Site software.

What kind of problems do you have??

Any suggestions about fine working software??

Sounds like the software is doing what it should be doing. A DVR is just that it does not need to do anything else as it only needs to do the DVR work. Just like all the DVR's we put in.

But I would like to work normaly with my computer meanwhile.

Is it possible?? Can I use some other software with this Kodicom card?

Most DVR software will "take" over your PC, as it should, in fact it should do much more if required... there are not many that dont, only one ive found that allows minimizing is Geo Vision ... which is how im using that right now on my own PC.

Either way, there is no "free" software for Kodicom ... that i have seen.

You will need to verify the software and card you have with any of the companies that develop software for Kodicom cards, to make sure it is not pirated first, which in most cases it is unless you purchases from a legitimate Kodicom System Builder.

Basically the software will only work with cards purchased from Kodicom Direct.

Where did you purchase the card?

Geo Vision is one route you could go if you want a server that will allow minimizing ... but then that would mean purchasing a new card, however their budget card GV250 will work and uses the same Full Geo software.

For an application like this, the machine is going to need to be dedicated:

1. It's mission critical. If your DVR fails when something bad happens, then what good is it? So you treat it like a mission critical machine. You don't web surf, you don't do things that put the machine at risk.

2. Processing power. Video Encoding is CPU intenstive. Maxing out your CPU can cause problems with video.

Try creating another user in XP, set the screensaver to log to the login prompt and call it on startup. Your system startup will be slowed by alot but you might be able to login on another admin account with the DVR running as the first. They should all follow geovision with this, it often makes troubleshooting them a PITA because some of the functions are only running with the software.

Yes too true since this guy hasn't even told us what is application is...

Not only that but if the DVR is woth anything it should be able to multi task to some extent with reliability, most of mine handle other basic functions voicemail/faxing capacity is a very common add-on.

80% of my customers just want to know who is at the door when the bell rings, not mission critical.

If they just need to see who is ringing a door bell then why bring a DVR into it at all? Camera to Used TV would be enough for them and alot cheaper. And while for some home users, that's all they need, it's a bad idea to have them treat the system as a toy. If they do need the recording to work, and it fails due to someone screwing around with the system, then what good was it?
