Best camera for the job?

Below is a list of what I am looking for. There are so many options on the camera side I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction.

 

12 color cameras – $150-$200 to be used in classrooms.

 

4 Color Day/Night – Less than $300.

1 will be at our front desk.

3 will be mounted outside

.

1 installer kit that includes a LCD

 

The best power supply for all the above cameras. I will be doing the install so trade tips are welcomed.

 

Any link to a demo of your suggested cameras will be appreciated.

 

On the software side I plan on using Video-Insight 16 camera 240 fps system.

For your four cameras, day/night, take a look at the speco CVC-6805EX. Speco has recently upgraded all of their HEAT cameras to be day/night!!! That one has a 4-9mm lens.

 

For the rest of the cameras, as long as they are going indoors, you can either go with the CVC-6805EX again or to save some money go with the CVC-637EX. No vari-focal (4mm fixed) and no auto-iris, but still hi res and day night. Both cameras have a .03 lux.

 

For your Feild monitor kit, take a look at the Marshall V-LCD-4-PRO-L-KIT. Best 4" feild monitor kit i have seen.

 

All the cameras are 12 volt DC, so i would go with the MG Electronics DPS-12DC-16.

 

I would always recommend going with a stand alone DVR, but if you already have your DVR then i am sure that these cameras will preform extremely well.

Why the stand alone DVR? They seem limited and proprietary.

 

What are your thoughts on the Sony SSC-DC374?

The stand alone DVR does everything a consumer needs in a DVR, is simple to install and use, and is normally more stable than using a home PC. Unless you are a Casino or truly require 24/7 real time video (non motion - recording all the time 30pps each camera) on all cameras, then the standalone will be perfect. Ofcourse each stand alone is different, and the less you pay for one, the less features it will 'normally' have.

Its a good camera, but it is not very low light (0.8 lux), Exview normally has a lower lux level. Also, on top of the price of the camera, you will need a lense and a housing if outside, or mount if indoors.

As Rory said the Sony is a good high resolution color camera but you will need some decent lighting at night, presuming night operation is important. Also you will need to incorporate the camera into a housing and mount. Depending on your area you might need the housing to have a heater. Listed below is one example of such a housing. What area are you in? If you do go with the Sony make sure you get an auto iris varifocal lens. Indoors you might want to go with color domes and depending on how accessible they are you may need to use vandal resistant domes. Again I'll post a couple of links so you can see some examples. There are several good suppliers of these products, Spy Town being one of them. Embedded DVRs are the better way to go since they are easier to use and more reliable than many of the PC based systems floating around. But that is a subject all in itself that we have gone over in another part of the forum.

Actually just took another glance at joe's requirements, if the cameras are to be used in classrooms, you may want to go with at least an indoor mini dome, or even vandal resistant. But then it gets a little more costly, at least in the GE, Sony, Phillips, etc range. IF you only want to spend $200 a mini dome, you may want to look at something like Vitek or hunt or Provideo. I have had a Hunt Color Vandal Resistant Dome outdoors at a night club now for 2 years with no issues. i dont really sell them at this point, as it hasnt been my target clients, but it is still a good enough high resolution dome.

Speco makes a great mini dome, i didnt recommend those because of their hi price tag.

 

Ify ou are looking for a good indoor mini-dome, i would suggest the Nuvico NVCCDV41N1. This is their hi res varifocal (under $200.00 on spytown).

 

With regards to the DVR question, Stand Alone units typically offer more reliablity than their PC counter parts. Nuvico also makes a great stand alone unit.

The DVR that we sell offers a 5 year warranty, and free tech support during that time, we are still updating the website, so many of our cameras are not in there.

 

by the way, why recommend spytown so much?

 

I compete directly with them. Yes, very true they have more products than us, but we are not done yet.

i certainly wish i did design work for spytown... i happen to like working with them. That is why they come so highly recommeded from me. Not to metion the low prices, good customer service, and fast shipping... It's not like i am trying to push my own stuff in this forum, *cough cough* (not that theres anything wrong with that... ).

Herm, you hit the nail on the head. They have the most products than anyone else online. And to be honest, i think the only other source for CCTV equipment that is bigger than spytown is ADI. You go and deal with them if you want to.

 

Maybe next time i'll give links to cctvproducts.com, or surviellance-video.com and let you get tortured by them. But then again that might be considered creuland unusual punishment.

 

one more thing... dont ask for links to the equipment that you want people to recommend and then make accusations.

Put in links to whomever you like. Everyone puts in links to places they like best. You certainly aren't going to put in a link to a place you don't like. Anyway it is the person asking for information who is going to make a final decision, not us. I think Spy Town has some very competitive pricing, although I've never dealt with them so don't know about the customer service. There are lots of good distributors out there. Since I'm on the West Coast I'm partial to VSSI which is a great distributor in this area. Rory likes someone in Florida I think. The main thing is to get some information out to the people who need it so they can make an informed decision. No one has a monopoly here on what can or cannot be listed.

I just deal with the closet distributor to me, which is in Miami, as shipping to my country gets heavier the further north you go.

 

Spytown has dealer pricing and alot of products, never bought from them myself, but seen them around for a long time.
