Camera placement, type for protecting roof?

Recommended Posts

My system is mainly to protect against vandalism rather than theft. With the prevalence of drones these days, I can't skip over protecting the roof with video coverage, but how?  It's more difficult than perimeter coverage because:

  • The cameras would have to be pointing up (e.g., pointing up the roof from gutters), rather than down, unless I attach them to the chimney.
  • They're potentially uglier at the points where I'd need them for this, drawing the attention of the HOA enforcement borg.
  • If pointed up, they might suffer sun damage.

There's not really a pole separate from the house to use, though I did consider that solution - electricity and utilities are underground.  Any ideas here?  Semi-covert cameras for this application would be acceptable if it would lead to something less ugly.  (For example, cameras disguised as something that's actually supposed to be on the roof.)
