Replacing Faulty Hard drive

We have a cctv system in place. the hard drive has failed (it started making crazy loud sounds and then turned off)... is replacing the hard drive as simple as:

1) open up the dvr unit
2) remove the faulty drive
3) then replace with new hard drive
4) and put all back together...

or is there some software installation involved?

Hi yes it’s that simple ….. but also check if the fan is working inside the unit…… take lid off and watch what happends
