Need Advice for a DVR

Recommended Posts

i have a client who wants to install a CCTV system on his office and he wants to view it remotely on his computer. the problem is, he wants to buy a taiwan brand cameras (conventional fixed dome cameras and Weatherproof IR cameras) and will just use a China brand DVR capture card. my question is that. Will the cameras from taiwan be compatible from a China brand DVR capture card? because i haven't tried that kind of installation yet.

i've been pushing him to use a Geovision Capture Card since it's our main product that is distributed on our company but my client wants a china brand because it's cheaper

Inputs will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Impossible to give a truthful answer, as to be honest, the country of origin of a product, be it china or taiwan does not give me any clue as to the specifications of either the camera's or the dvr card.

But in general a dvr is a dvr, as long as it supports the right tv system (pal or ntsc etc, whatever your cameras and display equipment is) and it fits, then no reason it should not work.

Course the easiest way, is to just check the specs, should not be difficult if you are familiar with cctv (which you should really be, if you are in the business of selling it to people) of both the cams, and the dvr.

If they want to buy a product you are not familiar with, then I would make it clear to them they are buying just that, and that you cant promise what the quality will be like, as you have no idea.....

thanks so much kensplace for the input

i will have to confirm it first from the client if the DVR capture card will support ntsc or pal tv system because he's not sourcing the DVR capture card from us. but as for our cameras which is from taiwan can support ntsc and pal tv system. i really didn't have any problems on my other installation because i'm using the Geovision cards which compliments well with our cameras which we are selling.

as for my client i just told him that i can only give warranty for the camera's and installation and if something happens with the dvr or the quality of the output of the dvr rest assured i can't promise a warranty for that

thanks again

Like Ken said, once its the same format (NTSC, PAL, Secam, etc) it will work.

Where it is made makes no difference.

Except you should tell them stop being cheap and buy the quality system

Actually there are a couple good ones from China, but doesnt sound like thats the ones he is going with ... actually just cause its from Taiwan doesnt mean its quality either ... though alot of their boards are made in South Korea. ..

but the Geo is solid.

Thanks rory for the reply and that funny comment i definitely agree on what you said there about stop being cheap

actually i offered him first the panasonic cctv and then after that i offered him the rover cameras but he decided to use to taiwan brand cameras. actually the quality of the cameras from taiwan is better than other china brands. i've installed several of them from my other clients, as long as you know what kind of camera that you will install on that particular area the result is adequate enough. plus you add a Geo card

our client just told me that he will be using a SecureLink capture card. i looked it up and that brand is from us. anybody heared that or used that card? and the card cost around 75-80 USD

I think thats an NVR or NVR software.

Or maybe it's a hardware encoder they use to allow analog cameras on their network.

If this is an $80 software package it's the tip of an IP camera iceberg.

EDIT: Yeah, I'm pretty sure that isn't what they want.

Hello

I think it is only a matter of video standard - provided that the cameras required provide a standard analogue video output - check the camera's video standard then check if the DVR card can accept that standard - it should work.

We use Sentry DVR cards with various cameras using PAL: card accepts it and works fine. I hope it helps.
