svaljak 0 Posted August 10, 2023 Hello, In general what information might a CCTV Standalone DVR write to the HDD for video input channels that are disconnected? I have a old (mid 2000s) DVR where 2 of 4 channels were actively recording video, on the missing channels there is some metadata stored to the HDD. The metadata does not decode to a video or an image (shows as blue screen in the player). When all four inputs are disconnected and the DVR continues to record there are four sets of this metadata (all four channel show blue screen on the player). I'm thinking it is part of an overlay feature mentioned in the mainboard ASIC specs but the DVR manual makes no mention about overlays. The metadata is identical across the full 2 or 3 days of recordings that exist on the HDD. Any thoughts about the meaning or purpose of this metadata? Thanks
tomcctv 190 Posted August 11, 2023 Hi. This is because you have all 4 channels selected as in use……. Camera or channel in camera settings as on …. No camera used on channels should be switched off from recording the metadata you are seeing is the watermark and electronic signature which you can’t stop as it’s also looking for data on active channels
svaljak 0 Posted August 11, 2023 Any idea what information the watermark or electronic signature contains? The video player just gives a blue screen on this data. Any chance it might be used to log system information, for example logins, reboots or system configuration settings in use?
tomcctv 190 Posted August 11, 2023 There is a software to use if a serious crime and footage is needed in courts then the software is used to see if any footage has been altered such as timeline hidden in the channels software…. It’s called watermark signature is virtually the same but across all channels. …… if there is a break in either then footage has been tampered with the software we have will do 90% of recorders in some countries watermark and signature is needed for insurance approval for the likes of high end product sales and banks

svaljak 0 Posted August 16, 2023 Does this work for a GVR-500V by any chance? I've posted about that model previously.
