ronster 0 Posted November 10, 2006 I have a guy who lost 9 out of 12 cameras mounted on a metal building. Can anyone recomend protection form direct hits and or cable hits? Thanks Ronnie
CSG 0 Posted November 11, 2006 It's not the camera your trying to save, it's the DVR. To that end they have surge protectors for coax cable, pricey but cheaper than replacing the DVR. And of course have a quality surge protector like APC for your 110 current supply to the DVR.
sajaan458 0 Posted November 17, 2006 I have two recommendations for you: 1. make sure you are using RG59 cable with Cooper not RG6. 2. Invest into getting Video and Power Surge Protector: One I have used worked great in past which is little expensive but worked great: http://www.ilinkpro.com/proddetail.asp?prod=ISPVP Best regards, Sajaan
zumy30 0 Posted November 18, 2006 You can try to use in-line coaxial cable protector like http://www.ditekcorp.com/productDetails.asp?idProduct=DTK-iBNC or DVR protector with battery backup and coaxial cable protection like http://www.ditekcorp.com/productDetails.asp?idProduct=DTK-DRP16
Rooney 0 Posted November 21, 2006 We have monsoon seasons here in Arizona that have multiple lightning events. We install surge protection and ground rods at each camera location and at the head end. The surge protection we use are made by Polyphaser. We install a bnc surge at both ends as well as a surge protector at each power supply. The system has to be "bonded" so the lightning does not "see" the indifferance to ground. Another way to do it is to place ground rods at equal intervals around the building and bond the building to the rods. I would recommend doing both. But, at least do the camera system. rory 0 Posted November 22, 2006 Make sure they invest in at least a Voltage Regulator .. with most UPSs these days you would want to find one that has AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) also search the forum for AVR or Voltage Regulator
