PCI Express Card & Mobo Issue

Anyone ever get a brand new mobo and PCI Express card,where the card wont be recognised at all?

 

Brand new out the box .. mobo doesnt see it at all .. its an Asus PCIE X300 .. mobo is a Gigabyte with DDR2 etc .. Sees the Geo card ...

 

Also, the onboard video only does 8Mb! It says cabable of 128MB but I dont see any settings anywhere for it ..

 

Any ideas?

 

Lastly .. CPU Clock Speed says 200Mhz in the bios Information part, but the CPU is a P4 3.2Ghz 800FSB, 1MB .. is 200Mhz normal?

Ok got it soughted out, an extra $260 later ..

 

The Asus Radeon PCI Express EAX300 128MB DDR Video Card,

does not work with the GigaByte GA-8I945GZME-RH Motherboard.

 

Installed an NVidea PCI Express 64MB DDR Video card and it worked straight away. Will that work with the GV-1120 .. thats another issue.

 

Meanwhile, inbetween troubleshooting I also purchased an MSI equivalent of the GigaByte Mobo, and so will try the Asus Radeon Card in that tonight also. If that works, will use that for the general PC DVRs .. up to the GV1120 .. as I can get them here locally for $135.

Rory, from my experience of building 400-500 PC's-- never use Gigabyte motherboards. They have horrible support, which sucks because they have one of the highest observed failure rates of any motherboard manufacturer.

what mobo is recommended ... how are Abit & MSI?

I love Abit boards, MSI are more budget.

 

 

I also refuse to use ATI though.

well im using an MSI MATX for this 1120 .. was all I can get down here right now .. with a 64MB DDR2 NVidea .. any tips on the NVidea . settings .. etc .. it says it is 256 MB but i imagine thats cause its running at 4x .. so 4x64MB ...?

Actually if they would reply they maybe able to help as its an Asus EAX300 Radeon Video Card that isnt working in these 2 Mobos ..

Basically if you are on a budget MSI is the most stable motherboard for the cheapest price. Asus is probably the best mainstream board, and DFI is probably the best "tweakers" board.

 

Right now, I've found the "hot setup" is the Intel Core Duo Processor on a Asus SLI Deluxe motherboard. Rock solid reliability and speed.

thanks .. so essentially I should be able to do the general DVRs with the MSI Mobos .. they are easy to get down here also incase i need a replacement ...

 

And do the others with the Asus more higher end boards ..

 

Funny thing is I just ended up using the MSI MTAX board today without an external video card and it works great with the GV1120 and 8 cameras .. i guess the DDR2 makes the difference plus the intel onboard graphics.

 

What sucks is now I have 2 video cards and a Motherboard that arent compatible, and im out of pocket an extra $300 Guess ill just see if I can sell them as part of a regular home PC or something ..

 

One thing though learned from all this, PCI Express really isnt ready yet, or better yet the Mother board manu's arent quite up to speed .. . I havent given up on PCI Express though, I just now know I need to read the entire Motherboard manual first before I buy it, to make sure a certain card works with it ..
