Using a 1/3" lens on a 1/2" camera?

I've got a Baxall 580 mono 1/2", i'm currently using a 1/3" Computar lens on it. It appears to function perfectly, what if any are the downsides of using a 1/3" lens on a camera that should use a 1/2"?

Depending on the lens design, you may have distortion around the edges of the picture. As well, it may produce a darker picture. I've seen some produce a "barrel" look if you use a smaller lens format.

 

Ensure the lens format is equal or greater than CCD format.

Thanks for the reply. I've ordered a 1/2" lens to replace the existing one .
